Polyhedral Surfaces and Industrial Applications

Workshop in Strobl: September 15-18, 2007

This conference takes place at BIFEB (Bundesinstitut für Erwachsenenbildung) in Strobl, Austria. It is supported by the research network `Industrial Geometry' (Austrian Science Fund), the DFG research center `Matheon' in Berlin, and the DFG research unit `Polyhedral Surfaces' in Berlin.

Report [added 2007/09/20]

The workshop is now over, and the organizers would like to take this opportunity to say many thanks to all participants, especially the speakers, to make this workshop a great success. Some fotos can be found here. Many speakers have sent their slides which can be downloaded from the schedule page.

Aims and Scope

The topics of this meeting include, but are not limited to: discrete differential geometry and calculus; algorithms for processing mesh- and point-based geometry in general; multiresolution methods; geometric optimization; meshes with functional properties for architectural design, discrete surfaces with special properties like developability or minimality, questions of statics, rigidity and flexibility.

Travel

The following information helps if you want to find your own way, but the organizers in Austria (H. Pottmann and J. Wallner) are glad to assist you.

From Salzburg by bus: a bus connects the airport with the train station. From there, you can catch Bus No. 150 at Bus bay No. 5 to Bad Ischl, which stops in Strobl. The bus usually leaves at 15 or 25 minutes past the full hour (see [bus schedule]). The ride takes little more than 1 hour. A way from the bus stop to the conference venue is indicated on this map. (The people at the conference venue can pick you up at the bus station if they know when you are coming, otherwise it is a 10 minutes walk.) This is perhaps the most convenient option if you travel via Salzburg or Munich.

By train: Bad Ischl, which is 10 km from Strobl, can be reached by train, via Attnang-Puchheim on the Vienna-Salzburg railway. This is perhaps the most convenient option if you travel via Vienna. If you intend to use the train, please tell us so we can arrange for transport from Bad Ischl to Strobl (you could also use the bus mentioned above).
