Nicola del Giudice (TU, advisor M. Kang): Vanishing of cohomology groups of random simplicial complexes

Abstract: Inspired by the existence of a threshold for the connectedness of the binomial random graph, we study an higher-dimensional analogue. We consider, for each integer k≥2, a model of random simplicial k-complex generated by the random (k+1)-uniform hypergraph, and F2-cohomological j-connectedness for each 1≤j≤k-1, that is the vanishing of the cohomology groups with coefficients in the field F2, of dimension up to j. This property is not monotone for our model, but nevertheless we determine a sharp threshold that corresponds to the disappearance of the last minimal obstruction.[hide abstract]
