Abstract: We introduce a within-host model of P. falciparum malaria infection which includes sequestration and gametogenesis. We investigate whether the model parameters could be estimated reliably using the concentration of infected red blood cells found in peripheral blood as the measurable output of the real system. The uncertainties in the estimated parameters are quantified in terms of the resulting standard errors which are calculated from asymptomatic formulas for the Fisher information matrix of the system.
