Abstract: We give an overview of the arithmetic of certain integral domains, called orders in Dedekind domains by investigating their failure of having unique factorizations. The arithmetic of Dedekind domains, for example rings of integers in algebraic number fields, is well understood and can be studied with methods from additive combinatorics. Orders in Dedekind domains are more complex objects, both from an algebraic and factorization-theoretic viewpoint and we investigate how their arithmetic properties depend on the corresponding Dedekind domain. Moreover, we give an algebraic characterization of those orders that exhibit certain particularly nice arithmetic properties.[hide abstract] | |
